About this course
Welcome to this 10 Day Pronunciation Challenge
I hope you are looking forward to it as much as I am. I am going to make it as much fun as I can and as engaging as I can.
If you commit to going through it, I can assure you that you will be making a breakthrough! Maybe even a whole series of them, not just in relation to your performance of the sound you have chosen, but also in your understanding and skills in tackling pronunciation and other problems.
This is a 10 day challenge, however I believe that most of you will take longer than 10 days to get through this challenge. Maybe even a lot longer. Don't be disappointed if it does. It is just the way this can work.
WHY could it take more than 10 days?
Because you really should not go onto the next day till you have mastered the lesson you are doing.
Not following this suggestion will all but guarantee that you won't succeed. (Let me know if you do! :-) )
However I will be VERY surprised if that happens.
Because skill mastery means going through steps. Miss a step and you will be in trouble. Not mastering a step is as good as missing it. Simple as that.
In other words, DON'T rush it. The tortoise is definitely going to be the winner here. If you are wondering why I brought up the tortoise here, it refers to a an old fable. You will learn about this fable in this challenge, if you don't already know it.
Anyways, I won't say much more. Lets get into it!
This first lesson focuses on being able to produce the vowel sound you have identified as needing work.
This step is where it starts. It can be sometimes be one of the more demanding steps and one you should not progress from until you have mastered it!
This lesson adds a level of difficulty...namely adding a consonant. It is a small step, but necessarily so to ensure that continuing success can be ensured.
This lesson should only be attempted after you have successfully completed Lesson 1, according to the criteria mentioned in the lesson.
This lesson is all about adding another level of difficulty, another consonant. Whilst this may be a small step, we are just trying to eliminate any potential roadblocks later.
Progress needs to be made step by step to ensure success at the end!
Adding consonant blends is the basis of this lesson. Some will be easier than others, depending on your first language.
Making sure that none of them degrade the quality you have created so far is the aim here.
Here the task is to extend your skills to the next step... words with 2 syllables.
Longer words place a different kind of stress upon what you have achieved so far. Ensuring that this doesn't influence your sound is the aim here.
Proceeding to the next lesson without ensuring a confident mastery here would be a mistake.
With this lesson, you will see whether all the careful work you did in the earlier lessons was sufficient.
From here, every day will be a bigger step up, each lesson testing your earlier work and more!
We have again moved up a step, making longer sentences than just one phrase.
One that will stretch you to not only maintain your quality but to maintain your awareness whilst a lot more is going on.
This lesson is a short one, as by now you will already know what you need to do as you add another sentence or two.
However, make sure you go through it all as there are a few ideas expanded upon, some real nuggets!
In this lesson you will work on expanding the skills you have been developing by reading aloud. Get some insights as how to approach that in ways that will help you advance your mastery.
In addition, we will be exploring the issue of how to deal with complexity, which up to now we have been purposefully sidestepping.
Here is the last lesson for this 10 Day Challenge. This lesson is all about learning to bring in what you have been doing into your regular speaking.
This Bonus will help you better understand and master the issue of word stress in English
This bonus can help you if you get stuck somewhere.
English presents particular challenges which, if approached sensibly, can be made MUCH more manageable.
This bonus will help you deal with these challenges in ways that will keep helping you, for as long as you face them.
